Lebanon has remained unyielding on how it handles Syrian detainees in its prisons, even as Damascus and Beirut work to improve relations following the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s regime.

Since Hamas launched Operation al-Aqsa Flood on October 7, 2023, Iran has firmly denied any involvement and, more recently, has taken a harsher stance by openly criticizing Hamas and accusing it of undermining its nuclear negotiations.

The individual and collective initiatives launched by Syrians immediately after the fall of the Assad regime in their cities and towns highlighted the strong presence of “national spirit” as a driving force for Syria's revival.

The pursuit of senior officers from Bashar al-Assad's regime, responsible for crimes against the Syrian people, continues as all of them remain unaccounted for since the regime's fall on December 8, 2024.

As soon as Bashar al-Assad fled Syria and one of the Middle East's most brutal dictatorships fell, many officials from the former regime did not hesitate to confess to the Syrian people that they had lived under Assad's ‘Republic of Terror.’
